It’s my birthday this weekend! YAY! I love my birthday! Last year, I talked about 10 ways I’m better now than I was 10 years ago, which I still agree with! So this year, I thought it would be fun to share 36 things you may not have known about me to celebrate my 36th birthday.
1. I was born in Chicago, but we moved before I turned 1 and I have never been back
2. I met my husband when I was 19 & we shared our first kiss on my 20th birthday!
3. My favorite guilty pleasure is eating copious amounts of chips with onion dip
4. I had a black eye for my Sweet 16
5. I don’t have any tattoos (but…)
6. My best friend and I got matching tongue rings on my 18th birthday
7. I have a small chip on one of my top teeth from that stupid tongue ring
8. I was 17 when I started college
9. Black is my favorite color and my wardrobe proves it
10. I love dipping pizza in ranch dressing
11. My maiden name was Smith so sometimes people thought I was giving them a fake name when I was growing up. (Lauren Smith? C’mon.. what is your REAL name)
12. I used to sneak out of my house so much as a teen that my mom installed motion detector flood lights outside my window
13. I didn’t wear heels until college since I was self-conscious about my height. (I am 5’8)
14. I still love the Hole ‘Live Through This’ album. So much.
15. I also love all obnoxious pop music. (Britney, Bieber… all of it)
16. I’ve kept every journal I have ever had. I started my first one when I was 6 years old.
17. My dad passed away when I was 25 from colon cancer, he died just 48 hours after my wedding. (The last time he saw me I was wearing my wedding dress)
18. I have landed every job I have ever applied for
19. I hate going to the movies, it just seems like such a long commitment of my time
20. I love Taco Bell
21. I have always wanted to move to a small town, but I could never leave my family here
22. If you hurt my feelings or make me angry I will definitely let you know
23. I have a horrible memory, I always forget peoples names and where I put my keys!
24. I am probably the most uncoordinated person you will ever meet
25. America’s Funniest Home videos is still one of my favorite shows
26. I love tea! I drink at least one cup everyday at work and I have a drawer full of different kinds of tea that I happily share with my coworkers!
27. I am extremely honest (some of my friends would say almost TOO honest)
28. I’m obsessed with watching makeup tutorials on YouTube, but I still have no clue how to apply makeup
29. I prefer Dunkin Donuts to Starbucks
30. I arrived in New York 2 weeks before September 11th for my internship at CNN
31. I make a to-do list everyday
32. My husband and I got to go on a tour of the U.S. Capitol dome (all the way up the stairs and outside at the ‘point’) and it was one of the coolest things I have ever done
33. I would much rather stay home than go out
34. I hate getting manicures, so my nails almost always look horrible
35. I would rather go out for brunch than go out to dinner
36. I love my blog and I am so thankful that you are HERE reading it!! 🙂

No way!! I love dunkin! (in fact they sent me a coupon for my birthday! ha!)
#12 your mom was brilliant. I'll have to remember that for my teen. Love your list & getting to know you birthday.
It also activated the same lights over on her side of the house, so it would shine into her bedroom… so she could wake up and run over and try to stop me! (but that was just too much to write for one number! ha!)

I love pop music too. The "old school" the better. "I'm a genie in a bottle baby"… I almost had a 90's throwback pop music theme birthday until I realized it would be torture for most of my friends and family.

I'm the same about movies. What if I go and I don't like it and then I'm there for TWO hours?! I love the one about the floodlights! I'm hooked on the two new Bieber songs. I also love Hole!!! Oh 90s grunge! It was a great thing!

Awesome list! I loved learning new things about you…and found we have a lot in common. I also started college at 17 (my birthday was Monday!) and love that Hole album too! Taco Bell, brunch, and staying home for me too. Hope you have a wonderful birthday!!!!

Love that you met your husband while you were still a teenager! I'm also 5'8" and I love wearing heels but I do sometimes feel self-conscious in them because it makes me quite tall. I go to the movies about once every 2 years…just feels like a waste of time and money. I would also rather stay home and I'll take brunch any day over dinner…sometimes I make breakfast for dinner!

I love this! I can relate to so many but #19 & 28. Ohhhh, the movies are so long. I could be doing so many other productive things! And I will read/watch TONS of make-up tutorials but I still barely wear any. They make it look so easy don't they? Happy Birthday! Hope you had a great one!

I know.. my husband is like, "Why do you watch those videos, you hardly wear makeup!" haha! I esp can't watch them when I am tipsy since then I go online and order all the products/brushes.. etc.
I'm also 5'8"! Most of the guys I have dated — including my husband — are way taller than me though so it's been ok (except for the one guy who was 5'7"). I turned 18 about a month into college (woop, September birthdays!) and Dunkin' is way better than Starbucks.

I am not tall but I didn't wear heels until my 20s either because they are uncomfortable and you can't walk around in them like tennis shoes or even flip flops. I still don't wear heels often and I am now in my 40s.

This is such a cool list!! I felt like I knew you before, but wow, so much more! Sorry, the tongue ring and the chip on your tooth cracked me up. Yikes!! I haven't had Dunkin' Donuts coffee (we don't really have any here-A Starbucks on every corner though!) But I prefer anything before Starbucks.

And Live Through This is *still* on regular rotation on my iPhone but Courtney Love and I have a love/hate relationship. That album is THE BEST, but I still think she had something to do with Kurt's demise.
