I kicked off 2016 with one main resolution. It was a mantra, really. More ME in 2016. I decided I was sick of putting myself last and was ready to make a change. Throughout the year, I kept that mantra in the back of my mind and I have to say, I had one amazing year because of it.
I carved out time for myself and my friends. I decided to try new things and have more fun in general. I didn’t look for weekend activities that only the kids would love, I searched out events that my husband and I would actually have fun at, too. Once I started making myself a priority a funny thing happened… my husband did the same. Donnie started doing more things for himself as well. Meeting up with friends, trading off gym time with me. Taking care of yourself can be contagious and once I started, my husband decided to join in on the fun.
We went on more vacations (even one without kids! say WHAT!) and said “Yes” to more things that WE enjoyed. We realized cleaning the house can wait, the laundry will eventually get done and that we need to start inviting our friends & their kids over for random taco nights more often! ๐
In addition to the More ME in 2016 overall goal, I had two sub goals. One was to try a new work out each month. That was a huge fail. I tried a barre class and that was the extent of my exercise experiment. I ended up joining a gym again and went back to my old standby workout.
My other goal was to read 25 books and that was a WIN! I loved reading again and making that time for myself made me a happier person. I think 25 was the perfect amount and I am going to set the same goal for 2017. I feel like I would be pushing it by upping the amount. I am going to do an entire blog post about my reading challenge, so get excited for that one! ๐
Did you make resolutions for 2016? How did they go?
Yay for making time for yourself! My goals for this year were to be calmer and more organized. I think I (mostly) succeeded at the former, was a little less so at the latter, but overall I’d call it a win!
Haha I always try to be more organized and I always FAIL! So I just took it off my resolution list. ๐
Yay! So glad you found more time for YOU! I tried to be fearlessly authentic, and I made it about 75%. Still have a few things to tweak but definitely enjoying more ME time as well! Thanks for helping so many of us be kinder to ourselves!
Yes this was an amazing year and I really think it was because I was happier overall. Taking time for myself made a HUGE difference. This is one resolution I am keeping.
So great to read your blog again!! I can’t tell you enough, how much your blogs have inspired me these last couple of months to continue writing my own blogs (I had to move from blogspot to wordpress because apple removed the blogger app..sigh) and to be able to prioritize my time so I could do more things for me, and I’ve been so happy!
I didn’t have any resolutions for 2016, just a prayer that God bless me with a child this year and He did, so just trying to settle into the big role of being a parent for the rest of the year ๐
That makes me so happy to hear! Congratulations on your little one, that is a blessing! Continue to take time for yourself in 2017… wishing you success and lots of happiness in 2017!
I actually forgot about more me in 2016! It sounds like you and yours had a wonderful year. The funny thing is when you put yourself first you’re really not bumping the kids. If you aren’t with them, you’re getting recharged for when you return. By doing something you and Donnie enjoy WITH the kids, everyone wins!
Yes it was really awesome. For the longest time I have felt guilty about doing ANYTHING for myself since I work full time. But I realized I can still enjoy time with the kids while enjoying myself too.. and they have fun with a happier momma! ๐
Love this idea of revisting your resolutions! Also this gives me an idea for mine: I’m going to do the 25 books thing!
You will love it! It was so nice to get back in the habit of reading!
I love that 2016 was good to you! I feel like I accomplished so much in 2016. Here is to a new year full of endless possibilities.
Same to you! I feel like 2017 is going to be even better!
