Awhile back I read about how you could make a cool dough using cornstarch and foam shaving cream. I got the stuff to make it a few weeks ago, and this weekend when it was overcast we went out on the patio to make it. I didn’t take many pictures, since I wasn’t planning to blog about it, but the whole thing was SO COOL! The kids were obsessed and played with it for a good hour! So sorry about the lack of pictures, but I wanted to still share the recipe since it is such an easy and fun activity.
All you need is 2 boxes of cornstarch (16 ounce each) & foam shaving cream. (I got it at the dollar store) Just dump the cornstarch into a plastic bin, cover it with all the shaving cream and go to town! Just keep mushing it all together and eventually it turns into the softest sand. You can mold it into shapes and it will stay, but once you smash it apart it crumbles right back into sand. Very neat. I was impressed by how well it worked and how much fun the kids had with it. I have these mini plastic sand molds for the beach, so next time we do this I will bring those out since I think they would be fun to use with the dough.

The last pic isnt my cutie.. it is just a fellow blogger using the #operationsummerfun hastag! ๐ But he IS adorable!
Sounds easy enough. My kids play with the kinetic sand but they would enjoy this too. Love those #OperationSummerFun pictures.

This looks like so much fun!!! We love sensory activities and I bet the kids would all love to make moon dough.
I was surprised by how well it turned out, I wish I would have had more items for them to use with the dough!
I've always wanted to make that stuff! Now I definitely have to! Love the pics!
You guys will have a blast.. but do it on the grass.. we had to wash down the patio afterwards! ๐
I love Moon Dough, and these instructions are so easy!
Yes it was a lot of fun, and super cheap!
That moon dough looks like so much fun! My kids are grown, but maybe I will try it with some of the kids at school..oh boy the principal will love me..ha ha! Thanks for sharing, have a great week Lauren!
Yes it is messy!! Have a fun and enjoy your week as well! ๐
I love the Moon Dough idea! One question do they end up smelling like shaving cream afterwards? I just love your #OperationSummerFun idea and how you're showcasing it!!!
There was a slight shaving cream smell left behind… haha but nothing too crazy.
I cannot wait to try the Moon Dough, I'm gathering ideas to keep the lil' ones busy-busy-busy! #OperationSummerFun is a great idea!
Well you better hashtag all these activites you are jotting down! haha!
Sounds so easy to make! Way to have some #OperationSummerFun fun!
It was very easy, and it kept the kids occupied for longer than I expected it to!
That sounds so easy!! I'll have to save this post for when my little guy is bigger and want to make some ๐
yes it is a fun one! Have a great week!
I have yet to try these experiments with my little one, I'm waiting for when a time when he understands things a bit better. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful week!
I've been wanting to make moon dough, thanks for sharing!!
have fun! ๐
This is so cool, my boys would have a blast with this! Is cleanup pretty easy? Like getting it off their skin?
jessica / http://www.teamwiking.com
It was really easy to get off.. rinsed right off with water. ๐
We will be making this really soon!! We have a bucket of playdoh toys and no playdoh… I they would have a great time pressing it into all of the shapes etc.
This would work perfect with all those toys!
So cool! My kids would love this. It would be fun to hide treasure in.
that is a great idea!!
How messy was the moon dough though?? I'm sure it'd be a hit with my boys!!
It got everywhere.. but it was really easy to wash off.. came right off the kids with plain water. We played with it on the patio.. next time we will play in the grass though.
the moon dough looks so fun but i'm a mean/clean mom and let pre-school take care of that! boo me!
haha this really wasnt bad.. it washed right off of the kids. But i hear ya!
How did I never know about this moon dough??? Looks super cool. Will have to try it…outside of course for my sanity.
Yes, outside for sure! It is a little messy, but it is really easy to get off.. washes away with plain water ๐
That looks wonderful! I'm totally doing this. How much shaving cream did you need to use? My kids are going to freak out. I have been wanting to make this for a while now, but I didn't realize it was so incredibly easy!
I know, I couldnt believe how easy it was. We just used the whole can. The corn starch keeps absorbing it, so it feels dry but still sticks together. It is the coolest!
I'm definitely going to make this! But also: can you just be my mom?? ๐ ๐
hahaha.. sure come on over!! ๐
I think my toddler would love this! I'm going to give it a try. I hope he doesn't think it's whipped cream and try to eat it!
He will love it!!
My niece would love this! I need to share with my sis-in-law. She is in destruction mode right now. At least she can "break" it and not really "break it". Thanks for sharing!
Yes! Safe smashing for sure!
moon dough is the best! and such a fun activity to do on rainy days!!
This is the first time we made it and I was so impressed by how well it worked!!
Operation summer fun is in full swing! That moon dough sounds fun. My kids would love!
I am having fun with it.. use the hastag so I can find what youre up to! ๐
