I will be the first to admit I majorly indulged over the holiday break. I didn’t work out and I ate & drank way too much. (but I had a lot of fun doing it, so what can you do?) Now that I am back to work and attempting to get back on track, I have been more mindful of what I am eating. I am usually a pretty good eater since I love veggies and all things healthy.
My latest food obsession involves fiber. Yes, fiber. It may not sound sexy, but most Americans are seriously lacking fiber in their diet since many foods are so processed today that most of the natural fiber has been stripped away. I have been loving The Skinny Confidential podcast lately and she recently had Tanya Zuckerbrot from the F-Factor Diet on and it was so interesting. You really should listen to it, but long story short… fiber is important. It helps your body run effectively, makes your skin look good and helps to maintain a healthy weight.
According to the F-Factor, the best way to get fiber is to partner it with a protein. They say it is the “Magic Combo.” I have been trying this method with my breakfast and snacks lately and it really does help you feel fuller, longer.
Here are just a few of my favorite protein & fiber packed snacks:
- GG’s crackers with anything: These crackers may taste like cardboard, but with 4 grams of fiber per cracker they are an awesome base for a number of protein toppers. For breakfast, I top them with an egg or some lox. For snacks, I pair the crackers with banana and almond butter. I also make a mean GG cracker tuna melt that is delicious.
- Chia pudding: I make a pudding with Chia seeds, almond milk and protein powder. Just mix it together and leave it in the fridge to set and allow the chia seeds to “sprout.” So good.
- Steel cut oats with peanut butter and berries: This tastes like a dessert to me and it is packed with fiber and protein.
- Dannon Okios Protein Crunch: This is quickly becoming my go-to snack to bring to work, since it is so easy to just grab as I run out the door. They are AMAZING if you are looking for a snack with both quality protein and fiber. They are made with greek yogurt and have 17 grams of protein and 6 grams of fiber in each 5oz. cup. They also have no artificial sweeteners.
Since these are new, you need to be sure to check the label since they have two different types of Okios crunch yogurts. (The protein crunch version has a lot more fiber.. the other version is still good, but we are talking about a fiber/protein combo here) They carry them at Walmart and you can find them in the refrigerated section with all the other yogurts.
So if you are looking for a way to kick-start your healthy eating, these are some great places to start! Be sure to check out the Ibotta offer for these protein crunch yogurts so you can save some money while you are at it!

I switched to Greek yogurt last year; I admit I was little late to this party. Man, I do love it and it makes my protein shakes so rich and creamy. I need to check this out the look like the perfect grab and go snack.

hmmm, going to try that chia seed trick. I would never have guessed that the seeds would sprout in the fridge! And it sounds a lot tastier that most of the fiber powders I’ve tried, which tend to leave you feeling gassy and bloated.

Thanks for the review. I’m not sure if this is available to me here in Canada but I will have a look. My little one loves yogurt and I love that this has more fiber for her!

I need to try the chia pudding. I’ve heard so much about it but I have never given it a try. 17 gr of protein is really good by the way.
Thanks for the helpful tips!

Omg I have been looking for something like this! Since I’m vegetarian, it’s hard to get my full protein intake every day! Ahhh I’ll have to try Dannon out and it’s so easy to take on the way out the door! Thank you for sharing !!!!! 🙂
