Thank you to the Shelborne South Beach for hosting my family & I for two nights. Opinions expressed here are 100% my own.
When you think of South Beach, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Nightlife? Spring Break? How about family-friendly? You may be surprised to hear that this South Florida hot spot is the perfect place for kids. My husband and I got married in South Beach and we love bringing the kids back to see where we tied the knot. There is usually a lot of kid-friendly events going on and the beaches are beautiful.
When the Shelborne South Beach contacted me about a new special they had going on, I was excited to check it out. I had never stayed at the Shelborne, but it is a well-known hotel with a prime location. Just two blocks from Lincoln Road, there is so much around to see and explore with the kids. Right now, they have a special “Kids are VIP” offer that has extra perks for the little ones.
We checked in on Friday night and my kids were so excited when we pulled up, since the lobby is impressive. Our room was just as beautiful, bright and modern with a special welcome message on the television and even some bubbly! We decided to go for a walk on Collins to wrap up our evening.
Saturday morning we all headed to Sarsaparilla Club for breakfast. With the “Kids are VIP” package, Hudson and Mila got to enjoy breakfast for free. They had a delicious spread complete with a manned omelet and waffle station, pastries and breads, cereals, yogurt, tons of fresh fruit and a hot bar with all the breakfast favorites! Mila was undecided, so the cook offered to make her a fresh waffle topped with chocolate syrup and whipped cream. She loved it! My son loves fruit and was so excited about the selections.
After breakfast, we headed down to the beach. The Shelborne has an area with towels and chairs ready for hotel guests. You can also rent an umbrella for the day, which we did. The beach was beautiful and they can even order food and drinks right on the sand. After the stress from Hurricane Irma and craziness of recent weeks, some vitamin sea was much needed by all of us.
The pool is beautiful and has a fun waterfall cascading from the original diving platform. I ordered a delicious rare tuna salad and fries. The kids stole most of those, but my salad was amazing! Our plan was to have lunch at the pool then go back to the beach, but once we got there we didn’t want to move.
The perks aren’t just for the kids, either. Menin Hospitality has an extensive list of perks programs – including complementary beach meditation at Shelborne and 15% off services at Shelborne’s GUYandGIRL Spa, among others – that can be enjoyed at each of its 10+ F&B and hospitality locations. I really wanted to do the meditation but we were still being lazy, so I skipped it. (maybe next time!)
I have to make a point to say I was beyond impressed with the customer service at the hotel. I know what you are thinking, “Well of course they were nice to you since they knew you would be writing about them.” While a tiny part of that may be true (I doubt everyone gets a bottle of chilled prosecco waiting for them on arrival) I have to say no one knew off the bat who we were or that I was staying there as a guest blogger unless they asked for our room number. (even then, I doubt they had any idea) Everyone went out of their way to be helpful. The staff on the beach, the pool, the bars were all amazing… we really felt special the entire weekend. The live singers at The Drawing Room on Saturday night even offered to sing Disney tunes for my daughter!
If you are looking for a great place to stay on South Beach, I highly recommend the Shelborne South Beach. We had a wonderful weekend and even though we live about 40 minutes away, it felt like we were on a real vacation.
