Thank you to Sesame Street and Bloggin’ Mamas for sponsoring this post
“There is nothing more important than being kind.” I can’t even tell you how many times I have said that to my kids. I believe nothing is more important than equipping your child with a kind and empathetic heart. School and chores are pretty high up there, but the realization of responsibilities will come with time. Right now, I want my kids to focus on kindness.
Working in news, we hear horrible stories of what happens at schools. Fights, cyber bullying, discrimination and hate crimes. Growing up in today’s society is tough. The focus shouldn’t be on sports or standardized testing. I think the only way to make a change is with kindness.
Right now Sesame Street is running a national survey and kids and kindness. You can take the quiz here. If offers tons of ideas to help foster a kind heart in young children. Starting with how they treat their peers:
- Turn taking
- Sharing
- Inviting others to play/inclusion
- Cooperation
- Understanding and appreciating similarities and differences
- Perspective taking (asking a friend who seems sad “Are you okay?” or “Can I help you?”)
Sesame Street is taking its message on the road. The K is for Kindness Tour is a free, multi-city experiential tour inspired by the new, 47th season of Sesame Street. Created especially for preschool fans and their families, this immersive, limited-engagement tour features hands-on digital learning fun, participation from local libraries in each community including bilingual English/Spanish books and activities, “meet and greets” with the costumed characters, a 15-minute interactive live stage show starring walk-around versions of the series’ beloved characters Elmo and Abby Cadabby, and other special surprises! You can grab a kindness toolkit here!
The tour will be stopping at the Pembroke Lakes Mall on Saturday, January 21st between 11am and 4pm. So mark your calendars and I hope to see you there! Also, if you are looking for more ideas on ways to show kindness, you can check out my Kindness Challenge. Sign up below and I’ll send you 50 ideas to show kindness!
