I was given a Luminess Air in exchange for my honest review. This post contains affiliate links
I don’t have time for a lengthy makeup routine. I just don’t. However, I do want to look nice and as I get older makeup is more of a necessity. Most of my life I wore the bare minimum when it came to cosmetics, simply because I didn’t really know how to properly apply it. I showed up to my high school senior pictures with lip gloss on. I ran into a friend at the shoot who was horrified and quickly made me up using her makeup. (she is now a makeup artist who owns 2 salons) Every time I get my makeup done, for a wedding or special event, I always grill the makeup artist for tips. The past few weddings I was in, they used airbrush makeup, which was AMAZING! It makes your skin look smooth and poreless and lasts all day!
So when the people over at Luminess Air contacted me I was super excited. And shocked. I told the woman that while I would love to try airbrush makeup at home, I felt like she may have contacted the wrong person. I kindly explained that I was not a beauty blogger… admitting that I was a busy working mom of 2 who actually sucked at applying makeup. I told her I never take more than a few minutes to slap on my face and that I didn’t think I would get any use out of the machine. She said that she was confident that ANYONE could use the product and that I would be surprised by how quick and easy the application was. Really? Challenge accepted.
She did suggest I watch some of the instructional YouTube videos, which I did. It looked simple enough but when the machine arrived I was super intimidated. However, I am happy to report it is very straightforward and easy to use!
The hardest part for me was finding the correct color combo. My kit contained 8 bottles. 4 foundation colors, 1 blush, 1 primer, 1 highlighter and 1 bronzer. (apparently you can do airbrush contouring, but I haven’t delved into that quite yet) The foundations come with 2 cool tines and 2 warm tones in my selected shade of medium. After a few test sprays, I found my perfect shade by mixing two of the colors together.
The airbrushing itself is really easy. You just use a light touch and swirl it around your face, focusing in a bit closer on any problem areas. It doesn’t look like any makeup is on your face, but your skin is even and smooth. So crazy. One of my close friends even said to me, “You’re not wearing makeup!? Your skin looks awesome, what have you been doing?” But I WAS wearing makeup, it was just airbrush.
Luminess Air sent me the “Silk” finish foundation, which has more of a dewy glow. Since I normally wear a very matte finish foundation, I think that’s why people thought I wasn’t wearing any makeup. I still love a matte finish, but I can appreciate the natural look this gives me. So if people want to think that I have naturally flawless skin with this makeup, who am I to tell them differently?
I have had this system for 2 months, and I use it every day before work. It literally takes me the same amount of time to use this, than to apply my normal foundation. It is a bit pricey, but I love the look it gives me! They have really good deals on the website all the time and I also have a coupon code for 20% off: 554833469. The truth is, if you want an airbrush makeup machine, it is going to cost you some money. I love my Luminess Air and I am definitely going to continue to use it.
