February Books Picks

working mom magic

If you have been following along on my reading challenge, then you know my goal is two read 2 books a month. (one fiction & one non-fiction) I posted my reviews of January’s books yesterday on the blog, and today I am sharing my February book picks.

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell:
Summary from Amazon:
Set over the course of one school year in 1986, this is the story of two
star-crossed misfits-smart enough to know that first love almost never
lasts, but brave and desperate enough to try. When Eleanor meets Park,
you’ll remember your own first love-and just how hard it pulled you
under.

Why I selected it:
It is February, so I wanted to pick a book that was at least somewhat related to love. (a few friends recommended I go with a Nicolas Sparks book, but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it) I have heard lots of good things about this book from my friends on Goodreads so I figured I would give it a try. I always love a good YA book every now and again. (Don’t judge me, you know you read The Hunger Games, too!)

#Girlboss by Sophia Amaroso:
Summary from Amazon:
In the New York Times bestseller that the Washington Post called “Lean In for misfits,” Sophia Amoruso shares how she went from dumpster diving to founding one of the fastest-growing retailers in the world.

Why I selected it:
I have heard SO much about this book and it has been on my wish list forever. I love motivating books, and since I already consider myself a #Girlboss anyway… I am eager to read about Amaroso’s rise to success.

I would love to hear what you think about my picks for this month, especially if you have read either of these!

I will check out the books you suggest. They look great. I just finished The Expatriates, by Janice Lee. It's about life in Hong Kong among the expat community. It explores motherhood, loyalty, generational perceptions, life stages, loss. I love the way Janice Lee writes.

Girl boss is also on my reading list! I highly recommend reading Into The Wild for your non fiction novel next month! It's one of my favorites. I started reading Elenour and Park but after a couple hundred pages in, I still wasn't interested. Let me know if I should give it another try! ๐Ÿ™‚

I haven't read Eleanor and Park, but it sounds so cute! YA novels are great because they aren't typically as trashy as adult novels can be. It just sounds cute. Have you seen Little Manhattan? Reminds me of the same kind of theme. Also, to vouch for Nicholas Sparks, his stories aren't as cheesy as they make the movies to be! I like Safe Haven. And then GirlBoss was great! Sophia cracked me up with her crazy escapades before she became a tycoon, plus she just has this great, gutsy, "just do it" attitude, which was inspiring! Have fun ๐Ÿ™‚

E&P was a fun book club read. While I wasn't fond of the ending, I liked the interaction between the characters, and the 80s feel of the book (mixed tapes!)

I started reading Girlboss a long time ago and could never get into it. I did not find it to be as great as what everyone said. Maybe I can try again in the future to read the whole book. I have never heard of Eleanor & Park.
