Create a Beautiful Flower Arrangement at the Flower Bar

I love a good girls night. (who doesn’t?) I recently got together with one of my best gals for a night of fun & flowers! Field of Flowers is kicking off a new experience at 3 of its South Florida locations and I was super lucky to be one of the first people to try it out. Basically, it is like one of those painting parties… except you create your own floral arrangement, with step-by-step directions from an expert florist. How cool is that?! It is called the Flower Bar.

20 years of friendship! LOVE her!

When we arrived, they had tables set up with our flower “menu” and a bucket full of all the flowers we would need to create our arrangement. We had some time to get wine & appetizers (provided) and chat with our tables mates. In the front was a table with an “example” bouquet to show what our finished product will look like.

I was a little worried & overwhelmed when I saw how elaborate the arrangement was, since I am not very crafty, especially when it comes to flowers! Rene, our expert florist extraordinaire, was quick to reassure me that it would all come together and said the fun part is watching how unique each arrangement turns out. (I was still worried)

They tell you which specific flower to choose and the general area where you should try to place it. We got plenty of time between flowers to chat and comment on the other arrangements at the table. It was so much fun! Our arrangements were complete after about an hour and a half. (but we were a super slow group… we took lots of breaks to sing along with the music and drink wine! ha!)

A few tips I learned:

  • Fillers are IMPORTANT! They had us outline our pot first with the green filler flowers, so it would look full & natural once we filled in the center with our flowers. Our florist told us a common mistake people make when creating an arrangement at home is the lack of filler flowers. (green shrubs, leaves, baby’s breath)
  • Plan where your arrangement will go & size accordingly. You should do this first. Since we were creating a centerpiece, he encouraged us to keep our arrangement low, so if it was in the middle of the table it wouldn’t block people from seeing each other.
  • Cut at an angle. They encouraged all of us to use floral foam at home and to cut your stems at a sharp angle before placing them. This will help them pierce and stay in the foam better, and live longer thanks to better water absorption.
  • Don’t be afraid to mix colors & textures. As you can see, our arrangment had A LOT going on and it all ended up coming together. Our florist told us many people don’t create creative arrangements at home since they are afraid to mix it up. (you can always take some flowers out if it looks too busy)

I was really impressed with how well everyone’s arrangements turned out! We all got to go home with an AMAZING arrangement of fresh flowers, that we created! I got home and my husband goes, “You did not make that.” Ha!

Punky photo bomb! ๐Ÿ™‚

Right now, the Flower Bar is only at 3 South Florida locations, but they expect to offer it nationwide soon.

Disclaimer: I got to visit the Flower Bar for free, but it was only because my friend Jen works for them. I didn’t have any obligation to write about it. I just thought it was so cool that I wanted to share.ย

Wow, amazing! It came out beautiful! I love that you included tips too – I have NO CLUE when it comes to floral design. I could definitely figure it out with those ideas. I also love the concept of this place! It's almost like a paint night, but with flowers! I'd love to do a girls' night out and come home with a pretty bouquet ๐Ÿ™‚

Doing your own arrangments saves so much money! I often get quotes for work events and say about 50% putting them together ourselves. Beautiful arrangement thanks for sharing!

Wow. Awesome job. You are right about cutting at an angle for better absorption. I used to work at a flower place, and learned that you can add Sprite or 7up to prolong the life of flowers, if you don't have the packets you get from the flower shop. It actually works.

How fun! This is definitely something I could use a little help on. They need to come to Orlando… I would be all over this! My mom's mom owned a floral business and I'm thinking this would be so fun for her and I to do together.

That's gorgeous! This is totally something I would love to do. I always prefer flowers to chocolate *every time*. I actually made a lot of floral arrangements while we were in the process of showing our house. I wish I had read this before! I was really nervous about what types of flowers to mix in and I erred on the side of caution when I could have gotten more creative. This looks fun!
