Social media. Most of us have a love/hate relationship with it. On one hand, it can be a definite time sucker, there is always a ‘new’ form social media popping up and sometimes social media as a whole can feel a bit overwhelming. (especially for bloggers) On the other hand, there are times when I am reminded just how awesome social media is. Like this weekend, on my birthday.

Jessie & I have been friends since middle school, and she is amazing. |

Here’s Jess, me and our friend Kelly… with all of our kids just last month! |
It’s just one of the reasons why I love social media so much. I am friends with people on there that I have known since I moved to Florida in 2nd grade. Some of them, I haven’t spoken with in person since 5th grade or so. However, I have re-connected with others personally… thanks to social media. We are all busy, and seeing each other face to face isn’t always easy, but that’s okay. Just because we lose touch with people, doesn’t mean they don’t still have a special place in your heart.

A friend of mine posted this on her page recently, I am still in touch with ALL these fabulous girls in one way or another… thanks to social media! |

Social media is great at keeping up bonds!

I know.. I am obsessed! ๐
I love it too – because we can be social! It is a great way to start relationships and just have a little escape! It's super cool you live in the town where you grew up!
Yes, I love that I can still see friends I knew in middle school!! ๐
This post makes me so happy because last night as I was posting about Miss America, I felt connected! Otherwise it would have just been me watching by myself feeling lonely… Yay social!
Right! You can just hop on twitter or periscope and find people interested in exactly what you are talking about!
I also love social media, I think used well it can bring about great connections
I agree!! It can be fun.. and addicting too! ๐
I love social media for this exact reason. When I ask people if they have FB and they say no, I ask myself "don't they want to keep up with friends and family?" ๐ Glad you got to connect with your friend!

I know! I have a good friend who is very stubborn and refuses to get on FB…I'm like you are missing out!! ha!
I found a one of my best friends from elementary school on FB. She moved in 6th grade and it was great to reconnect even if I haven't actually seen her in years.
What an awesome story!!
Love this! It's so great to stay connected with old friends and it's wonderful for making new ones as well:)
So true!! I would be so sad if I didn't have you in my FB life! (and now my periscope life too!!) ha!
Social media is such a fabulous way to stay connected to people you don't live by! I have also found it really helpful with family that I only see like once a year because we don't have to spend all of our time together catching up on the past year since we've stayed up to date on social media!
That is very true, love connecting with family on social media!
I recently reconnected with my childhood best friend after I shared a blog post I wrote on Facebook that she really related to. Social media can be pretty darn amazing!
Me too!!! I love love love that! ๐
I know! Social media rocks!
I love FB because of the reasons you mentioned above – it's a fabulous way to keep in touch with longtime friends who you haven't seen in years but still really care about. Instagram is awesome because via the images shared you're able to take a peek into what life is like for people all over the world. And I love, love Pinterest. But I still haven't grown a fondness for Twitter or Google +.
I love twitter, too.. and now I am periscope obsessed!
Love your post! So true…such a time stealer..but worth it in so many ways…keeping up with friends…making new ones and its great for helping to ease the empty nest….! Thanks for sharing this..and Happy Bday to you!
Thanks for stopping by.. I hope you are having a great week.
That is the best part of social media. I love reconnecting with people. You think you've lost them, then BAM they're back in your life…even if it's just through messages and pictures, it's still awesome.
Yes I totally agree! I may not see them.. but I love seeing my old friends with their kids… etc. So cool!
I love it too! If it weren't for social media, I would only be in touch with a small handful of people from my school days.
I know! However I am glad they didnt have all this social media back when I went to college ๐
A few childhood friends found me & now we keep in touch. I agree I have been to scale back a bit, although blogging requires a lot of social media. Love all your photos.
thank you! They are old school! ha!
this is such a tough subject for me because i love it so much for some specific reasons but i really think it could possibly play a part in ruining society! plus, i can NOT keep up with it… it can be sooo all consuming! and my husband gets super mad at me when i spend any time on it in his presence – especially this periscope stuff!
I do agree that all the social media out there is kind of screwing up interpersonal relationships.. and I do worry what it will be like when my kids are teens… scary! However, I do love staying in touch with old friends and meeting new ones! ๐
I completely am with you on why you love it…but on the flipside, I wish they would stop inventing new ones cuz I just can't keep up!!!! lol
I know!!! SO true! now I am all into periscope
It does have it's perks ๐ I can only imagine what it would have been like to have this while we were in high school. As much as it frustrates me, I'm glad we have it now. Distance from those we care about means (almost) nothing anymore.
That's a great way to put it!
Thanks for your post. I enjoyed hearing about the impact social media has had in your life. I was able to reconnect with several of my high school and college friends. Sometimes it seems shallow but it's better than no connection. And, it can lead to stronger bonds down the road.
I have a love hate relationship. I feel I check it way too much and I'm not sure the pros outweigh the cons in my life. But it's a great way to keep up with family.. especially when they live in a different continent!
