My mornings are usually pretty crazy, and I’m not quite used to our new summer routine yet. To help me save some time, I have been making green smoothies in the morning. I love smoothies, but I never make them since I don’t have time for all the prep that is involved. Since we do a lot of meal prep on Sunday, I decided to add smoothie prep to the list.
I also add some frozen fruit. I always use mixed berries. Then I switch between pineapple and mango. I portion those into ziplock bags, as well. It is SO easy to just grab the two bags, toss it all into the blender and go! I recently upgraded to a Ninja blender, and it is so much easier to clean than my last one.
Since I have been on my green smoothie kick, I have noticed I have a TON of energy. It gives me a major boost for the first half of my day. What are some of your favorite things to add to your smoothies? I would love some new ideas!
Katie Serbinski says
Way to go with the smoothie prep! We always leave Sunday's for food prep as well, but never though about smoothie prep. Duh!!

One day I was like.. you know what.. I am going to bag all this stuff up right now! And I LOVE it. It is so easy to make my smoothies now!!
Tarynn Playle says
I love smoothies too but never make them for the same reason. I should start prepping them for the week also. I love to add protein powder when I make mine, but I may look in to the matcha. I don't like green tea, but it has amazing benefits!
Lauren says
Well if you hate green tea you will REALLY hate matcha! ha… the smoothie covers up the taste though! ๐
Aubrey Aquino says
How do you like that blender?? I think I want to do more smoothies in my life, but I def need a blender upgrade!! And –once I have that and some ziploc baggies with everything portioned out I'l be good to go, right?!? ๐
Lauren says
It is really good with just fruit, but the kale is kind of lumpy still. I read reviews saying that may happen before I bought it, but it was $80 bucks so I figured it is good enough for that price! (but most reviews said no matter what blender you have it wont fully liquify kale, that you should juice it first.. but I dont have time for that!!)

I'm obsessed with this Suja green juice. Not quite a smoothie but it has kale, lemon, and apple juice. I like your combinations. I have a magic bullet but it is super old so maybe I should get a ninja one.
Lauren says
I love suja juice.. this is nothing like that.. you would need a juicer for that one. I hate cleaning my juicer so I never bother with it. haha
Julie @ Girl on the Move says
What a great idea to prep your smoothies just like you would meal prep the rest of your food! And I also love love love my Ninja!
Lauren says
It is waaaay better than the blender we had.. it was my husband's from college!! ha!
Jane Gordon says
I've been wanting to get a Ninja and start making healthy smoothies for breakfast and lunch at work. Thanks for getting me started on the right foot! ๐
Lauren says
It is really easy to clean so I love that about the blender.. the prep makes it really easy! ๐ have a wonderful week!
Megan Van Weelde says
Yum! I have been wanting to try matcha. Good to know to try it in a smoothie first.
Lauren says
Yes.. I love green tea, but matcha tastes SO strong.. I need the smoothie to cover up the taste! ๐ Have a great week!!

I am really impressed with your organizational skills. Prepping them first would make it so much easier. I am inspired to try this, thanks for sharing!
Lauren says
You should, it takes only 20 minutes to prep everything for the week!

I've been thinking about doing smoothies for my kids. They've both decided in some secret kids meeting that if it isn't a chicken nugget, they won't be eating it. Their doctor keeps assuring me 'this too shall pass', but smoothies may be my best bet for getting them the nutrients that they are lacking!
Lauren says
Smoothies are a great way to sneak healthy stuff to the kids! My son loves smoothies!
CourtneyLynne says
Ughhhh I ise to be so good about smoothies! I use to prep them for both my daughter and I. I need to get back on the smoothie grind!
Lauren says
It is crazy how much energy I have from it! Also, I read an article on how green smoothies are super good for your skin… that is also what motivated me. haha
Alana Parenting from the Heart Blog says
I'm really impressed with this! I LOVE kale & spinach but I'm so scared to have them in a smoothie… I know I'm lame!
Lauren says
Start with just spinach then.. I love kale but it def has a stronger taste and it doesnt blend up as well. ๐
randi salko says
I haven't tried matcha yet but I am definitely going too. I love green smoothies.
Lauren says
Yes it def has a strong flavor.. but Dr Oz says its good for me!

I need to get into the habit of prepping so I make them more! I've been making them for my daughter (who actually requests them sometimes — right now she calls them "moosie") because she's in that phase where she's refusing a lot of veggies. This way I can get in some kale or spinach and she'll actually eat (well, drink) them! I haven't thought of putting grapes in smoothies but I'll have to try it out!
Lauren says
My son loves smoothies.. and I always sneak tons of stuff in there. ๐
Lindsay Gilbert says
I love smoothies!! Thanks for sharing your tips!
Lauren says
Thanks for stopping over and have a wonderful week!

What an awesome idea! On our homeschool days we have a smoothie break at 9:30 in the morning. This would really help me get those smoothies to the table a lot faster.
Great idea!
Wishing you a lovely day.
xoxo
Lauren says
Yes it makes it so much easier. esp since I dont have to rinse all the greens!
Logan Cantrell says
This is a GREAT idea! I have never thought to prep for my smoothies. I drink one almost every day, so I am definitely trying this!
Lauren says
Yes, I love smoothies too.. but I started only using fruit since I was sick of rinsing all the greens.. now that I can prep it all I feel like my smoothies are way more healthy. ๐

I started cleaning, cutting, vacuum sealing and freezing my smoothie ingredients. Then when I'm ready to make them, just pop it out of the freezer, add my liquid or yogurt and it's nice, cold, and delish! My son and I just tried making a fresh one with watermelon and while it may have looked pretty, it tasted nasty! The green tea I'd try though!
Lauren says
Yes I love green tea, but the matcha is tough to take alone ๐ THANK YOU for commenting and figure out how to do it on my crazy system!!!
Kristen Hewitt says
This sounds amazing, I've never heard of it! BTW…did you see the hot water Dr. Oz is in for always talking about "miracle" products on air?
And I love how you portion your smoothie ingredients, so smart!
Jeannine O'Neil says
I have never made a smoothie and I love fruit and vegetables. I always feel so overwhelmed with all the options. However, you explained it really well and I like the food prep idea so that you can just grab it and get started. I am sure this will help it seem less daunting. I need more energy. I have an afternoon energy drop off around 1 or 2 and the rest of the afternoon drags on for me. I am going to see if smoothies will help this out. Thanks for sharing!
