My Pinterest Fail Courtesy #OperationSummerFun

This weekend as part of my #OperationSummerFun initiative we made gummy ice popsicles. I have seen a bunch of gummy popsicle recipes on Pinterest, and I wanted to see if they would work with my beloved Zoku pop maker. Also, my son loves gummy ANYTHING so he was super excited about this!

The directions seemed easy enough, just grab a can of Sprite and gummies. We made one using Swedish Fish and blue flavoring mixed into the Sprite to make it look like the ocean. We made another one using penguin gummies and left the Sprite plain. (like penguins in the ice!) Well, they turned out NOTHING like the pinterest pictures… and you couldn’t even really SEE the gummies. My son said they were good though, so at least it wasn’t a total Pinterest fail.

He liked them anyway!

That was really as exciting as it got this weekend for #OperationSummerFun. We did eat dinner outside on Saturday night, and then we went on the boat. We tried fishing, but apparently the fish in the rest of the lake are much smarter than the ones in front of our house! When we came back, my crazy husband picked up my son and jumped in the pool with all their clothes on. I thought it was funny, until Donnie raced out of the pool, scooped me up and tossed me in next! Mila hopped in after us and we enjoyed a fully-clothed evening swim! (except for Mila, she didn’t want to get her new dress wet so she skinny-dipped!) So even though we didn’t really go anywhere different, #OperationSummerFun is all about making memories… and I definitely think we accomplished that this weekend!

Silly Saturday night!

I’m not going to be doing a Operation Summer Fun post every week, since I feel like that would be annoying. My plan is to post them throughout the summer, or if we do something really memorable. But I will be using the #OperationSummerFun hashtag on social media. Also, thanks to everyone who used the hashtag in their Instagram pics! Here are a few of my favorites! If you do something fun with your family and feel so inclined… use the hashtag #OperationSummerFun so I can feature you!

I loved this one from Ready, Set, Parenthood… proof that boys never grow up!

Nothing says summer is almost here like bubbles! Loved this pic from Mary over at I Need a Playdate!

How awesome is this?? I have always wanted to go to Hawks Cay and this picture from ihelpmoms.com shows why!
Thanks to Divas with a Purpose for sharing this pic of her soldier who just came home, and is already cooking it up! I love reading about her Money Savings Challenge her family is trying this year!
And how cute is this sign (and the kids!) Check out Holly’s blog over at While I’m Waiting, she has tons of cute ideas to kickoff summer!
