Mila is my morning buddy. After my husband goes to work and I take Hudson to school, it is just her and I until I go to work. (which may be why she is obsessed with me) She watches me get ready every day… sitting next to me as I blow-dry my hair, and stealing makeup out of my bathroom drawers.
So she was BEYOND excited when we put together her new kid-sized vanity, an amazing Christmas gift from the best aunt and uncle ever! (thanks Heather & Jeff!!) Heather also got her a little kit full of pretend vanity products, which were super cute… but Mila broke most of the eyeshadows and blushes fairy quickly. She likes to open and close them about a MILLION times… the toys never stood a chance!
I recently cleaned out my bathroom drawers (part of my big organization resolution!) and I realized I was throwing out a lot of old eyeshadows and brushes that I knew Mila would love to play with! I’ve seen pictures of homemade play makeup using paint or nail polish… So I decided to give it a try!
Then I rinsed off all the containers and poured nail polish in each part. They were dry in just a few hours. (Make sure you let them dry in a well-ventilated area, the polish smell will be pretty strong)
I think they turned out so cute, and Mila LOVES them! It also makes getting ready much easier for me, since now she has her own area to play. (I wish I had glitter nail polishes, since I think those would have turned out awesome! I will definitely invest in some $1 Wet & Wild glittery polish the next time I do this!) So if you have a girly girl like I apparently do… try to make your own play makeup! It is super easy, your kids will love it and they are really durable!
Such a good idea!!! Definitely using this!
Thank you! I was shocked by how easy it was and how good they turned out! Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
This is such a fun idea! I have loads of makeup I never use… and nail polish too!
I know.. I need to make her more.. blush, etc. She really loves it, which is so funny to me!!
Super cute idea!
Thank you Katie, and Happy New Year! 🙂
Wow, that is really an incredible idea! If I ever have a little girl, I am SO going to try this out! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!! My 6 year old son actually loves it too, he's like "hey Mila.. want me to put make up on you?" haha
My daughter would LOVE this! Thanks for sharing this great idea!
It surprised me that it was such a big hit, to be honest. I wasnt even planning to blog about it.. but the kids like it so much!
This is a really cute idea… And it's so simple! Thanks for sharing!
I know.. and they have held up really well considering she messes with it every day. (her brother too) 😉
great great great idea my dear!
Thank you! 🙂
MUST DO THIS. LITERAL!
haha.. use glitter polish! It is my one regret.. 😉
What a great idea! The girls love getting their hair blow-dried and putting on makeup. But they might be upset when the makeup doesn't show up on their face. Does Mila care?
She doesn't mind.. but she's not even two! haha.. she may notice and get annoyed when she is a bit older!
That is so cute, and I adore the photo or her putting her makeup on. Seriously, so sweet! I'll have to see Eve is girly and into makeup as she gets older, now she's completely clueless 🙂
I am so surprised that she knows what to do with it.. she was asking for my makeup since she always watches me get ready. It is really crazy how young it all starts…
This is a really cute Idea, wish I had done this when my daughter was little.
Thanks Nicole! Have a wonderful day and thanks for taking the time to comment.
What a great idea! I know my daughter would love this…she's super into the idea of makeup 🙂
Its so scary how early it all starts! She has been a girly girl from the start.. I am in serious trouble! 😉
What a cute idea!!! 🙂
Thank you for taking the time to comment! Have a wonderful day!!
OMG. You are a genius! My 3yo loves playing with my makeup! So going to do this over the weekend!
Yes, I was sick of tracking down all my missing makeup! I would find it in my closet, in the playroom.. haha!
These are super cute. I never had girls but I have a friend who has 3. I think she would really like this idea. Thanks for sharing.
thanks for stopping by! Have a wonderful week!
This is SUCH a cute idea!!! I've got to share it with all of my girl mom friends lol, I hear so many stories of ruined makeup haha!
Yes.. it is crazy how fast they get into things.. I am always missing makeup now, and my necklaces if I leave them where she can grab them! 😉
Oh my goodness! This is BRILLIANT!!! I have to remember to do this for my girls.
Thanks so much for sharing! I'm pinning this to my Deliberate Kids Stuff board!
Wishing you a lovely evening.
xoxo
Thanks for the pin!! 🙂 Mila loves her fake makeup, but it does give me a bit of anxiety that she is ALREADY into such girly things! 🙂
OMG what a great idea – and how adorable! Little girls everywhere need this!!
Thank you! She really enjoys it, and her brother does too! ha! He may be a makeup artist when her grows up since he is always offering to do her 'makeup'!
love this! (goes off to look for empty eye shadow boxes…)
Yeah, it was pretty easy for me to find some since I am a bit of a makeup hoarder… haha! Have a wonderful week and thanks for stopping over!
Such an awesome idea! I am totally going to do this!
I was surprised at how good it turned out and it has really held up! (but I really wish I had used glitter polish!!) 😉
Oh how cute! I'm sure she was thrilled to have her own little vanity for getting ready in the morning. Making her own eyeshadow is such a cute idea. If I ever have a girl I may just have to steal this idea. 🙂

You're a genius! My two-year-old is obsessed with all things "pretty" and loves pretending to put on makeup. This will be perfect for her!
It sounds like you have a girly girl like me! (and it was time for me to get rid of those blue eyeshadows that I tricked myself into thinking I could pull off!) ha!
I think this is a great idea! I like that its also simple.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Susan! Hope you are having a great week! 😉
I love this idea!! How cute is she?!?
That's a really neat idea of recycling your old cosmetics for her to play with. Will have to try that with my little one as she loves to get into my makeup.
Yes, and this is way cleaner since she had already broken a few eyeshadows when she managed to sneak them away from my drawer! 😉
Wow, this is adorable! A frugal idea that is sure to entertain for hours. Thanks 🙂
Thank you! She still loves it! Hope you are having a great week!
This is so cute! I need to do something like this for my girls!

This is so precious! I love her vanity, I think I need one in my size! 🙂
Love this idea! My daughter is 22mo and is forever getting into my makeup bag, every lipstick I own has been mutilated. Just a question, does your daughter try to lick the nail polishe or anything? Just worried because it’s toxic if it’s the safest thing to use?? Thanks ☺️
She doesn’t try to lick it.. Not sure if there is something a little better to use out there.. if there is I can’t think of it. A little nail polish can’t hurt too much.. right? 😉
