National Compliment Day was invented in 1998 by Kathy Chamberlin and Debby Hoffman. The pair also wrote a book titled, Find Something Nice to Say.
Compliments just make you feel good. One study found people even worked better after they were complimented. The most important thing with a compliment is it has to be GENUINE. People can see right through a forced one.
To celebrate National Compliment day all you have to do is compliment 5 different people. Easy. When was the last time you gave your husband a compliment? Your best friend? Your parents? Your kids?
Here are 7 fun ways you can celebrate National Compliment Day:
- Give a compliment to each member of your family throughout the day
- Text or call your close friends and give them a few reasons why they are awesome
- Have your kids write a nice note to their teacher
- Give a few co-workers compliments
- Hide a note in your husbands car with a compliment on it
- Compliment a friend by leaving a nice comment on their latest social media picture
- Tell a mom she is a doing a great job… especially if it looks like she hasn’t slept or washed her hair in awhile! 😉
So have fun & give out LOTS of compliments… and before you know it WORLD compliment day will be here. Here’s an even BETTER idea… let’s pretend everyday is compliment day! I know my beautiful, smart, witty, amazing readers will agree, it’s an easy way to brighten up someone’s day! 😉
OMG– Love this. I'm giving EVERYONE a complement.
I know! Wha ta fun day, right? 🙂
I had no idea! Good to know! It's not bad to get in the habit of complimenting loved ones daily. 🙂

Compliments are the best! (and google too, for all the background!)
I had no idea where was a National Compliment Day – how nice! I'll have to think of some good ones for Saturday 🙂
I learn about the craziest 'holidays' through press releases sent to my work.. but I thought this one was pretty good! Ha!
I didn't know about compliment day either, but I think is a great idea. Complimenting people automatically makes them happy and feel good. I am going to compliment my hubby so he can do more chores around the house ;). Is always great when people acknowledge you and say something nice so I will compliment more often.
I know, once you start complimenting a few people you see how much it can make their day.. which is always nice! 🙂
This is great! I had no idea about compliment day! I'm going to have to be more conscience of complementing people.

Every day should be a day for saying something nice to someone, but Saturday will be extra special 🙂
I totally agree with you, we should all be giving out compliments daily! Thanks for stopping by!
I had no idea this was even a day. My husband and I have been working very hard on our marriage to be happy with each other. We know we can't be great parents are great partners if we aren't happy. I think this Saturday I will do some thing extra special for him. Maybe get up early and make breakfast and get some movies for him.
It is tough to re-balance your marriage after having a child.. it takes awhile. It sounds like a nice plan you have for him this weekend!! 🙂
Is there a day for everything now? It was just hugs day yesterday. lol Yes, this is a great idea that should be everyday. We'll just kick it up a k notch on Sat.
I know, pretty funny! (and yes.. there is a day for everything!! ha!)
do u notice people don't know how to respond sometimes when someone says something nice? especially children. sometimes is just as hard to accept a compliment as it is to give it! i teach my littles a trusty THANK YOU will get u far!
I used to have a hard time taking a compliment.. I think that is great to teach your kids to accept one gracefully!
