Summer Camping Trip with Kiwi Crate

I love doing crafts with Hudson, but I rarely have time to plan them out. So we usually end up just painting or making stuff with paper towel rolls. (He will NOT let me throw them out. Ever.) Which is why I was excited to learn more about Kiwi Crate. Kiwi Crate is a subscription service that sends you a new box each month filled with everything you need to make 2-3 crafts. Each month has a new theme and they work best for kids ages 3-8.

Hudson was super excited to open his Kiwi Crate, and when we did he was not disappointed. It was a ‘Camping Trip’ theme and it included two crafts.

He decided he wanted to do the ‘My Glowing Campfire’ craft first, since it came with a flickering tea light, which he thought was AWESOME.

I would have NEVER been able to come up with something as creative as this, and it is really handy that EVERYTHING is included. It even came with a glue stick to use. So even if you don’t have a single craft item in your home… you will be totally set.

The project was fun and Hudson was able to follow directions and complete the craft on his own! It turned out great, and he was super excited to have a campfire that night in his room

The second craft was a ‘Sunprint Backpack.’ Basically, you paint a backpack, and then place flat, plastic shapes over it when it dries in the sun… leaving behind a ‘sunprint.’ Now we went rogue on this one, since Hudson wanted a ninja backpack… he thought if he set some of his ninja stuff on the bag it would still leave a mark. (and I agreed)

We stuck a ninja knife on it and I created a make-shift ninja star with
the plastic leaves that were included in the kit. Well, guess what?? The
ninja star left a mark (since I used what was included) and the knife
really didn’t leave much of a mark at all.

I also think Hudson added a
little bit too much water to the paint, but I didn’t tell him that. He
loves his backpack anyway. But follow directions, people.

The box also included an ‘Explore’ magazine full of little stories, games, and puzzles. There was also a ‘My Travel Journal’ so kids can write down all the fun stuff they have been doing this summer!

The fine folks at Kiwi Crate sent me this box to try out for free, but it was such a hit I am thinking of getting a subscription. I love having stuff to do with my sweet little man, but I rarely have time to plan out crafts, and this makes it SO easy! For 20 bucks a month I think it is totally worth it.

What are your favorite summertime crafts?

Yes, it really is pretty cool. The campfire craft is STILL in Hudson's room and he turns on the little tea light almost every night at bedtime.

I popped over here from Bloglovin' and was torn between the Tequila Day post and this one. This won out because I'm a kiwi so was intrigued by what could possibly be kept in a kiwi crate haha! Sounds like a fantastic idea and I think that campfire would be a definite hit in our house too.

Haha… I would have picked Tequila! 😉 Yes, it is a really neat idea and the quality is good too. I am going to get a 3 month subscription once school starts!

It was super fun! And it was nice that he could actually do it all by himself. So he felt really proud of himself in the end to see what he created!
