Family Favorites: What My Kids Are Reading in July!

It is time for our July favorite books post! I continue to suck at making time to read… I am going to do two books each for my kids, since apparently they are the only ones in our house with free time to read.

Hudson:
The Pigeon Wants a Puppy
We have a bunch of these pigeon books, they are the best. (A big thanks to my dear friend, Jessie, for introducing us to this series) This book is our favorite right now because it is FUNNY. We usually read two or three books each night, and lately I have been having Hudson select one book that he has to read to me. This book has been among his go-to’s since he can easily read it.

Lego Junior Magazine
You can sign up for this magazine for FREE on Lego’s website. They have a Lego Jr. magazine and a regular Lego magazine. (they decide which one to send you based on the age you enter for your child) This magazine has little stories and games, along with pictures kids send in of their Lego creations. Every time Hudson gets a new one he is obsessed with it for a few weeks.

Mila:
Good Night, Gorilla
This is one of Hudson’s old favorites, that has migrated into Mila’s room. As we know, she loves animals, so this book is great, since it has a mix of common animals (like gorillas & giraffes) but there is also an armadillo and hyena, which is something new to her. Hudson can read this book to her which they BOTH love.

That’s Not My Dinosaur
This book is part of a series of ‘That’s Not My…’ touchy-feely books. We have a bunch of them, but this is currently her favorite. Each page has a different texture to feel. She loves the page with the teeth, she likes to scratch the ridges on them back and forth since they make a sound.

What are some books your family is loving right now?

As a literacy teacher, I totally love this post. Keeping kids reading over the summer is SO important! 🙂 We love the pigeon books, too 🙂

Yes, we haven't been doing as much 'writing' practice as I would have liked for my soon-to-be first grader, but the reading part we've got DOWN! 😉

I love that I jumped on your site and the post is about books!! We are ALL about books. Right now, I'm trying to make my girls love "Madeline" as much as I did but I saw that you have "That's Not My Dinosaur" on your list. I have never seen that one but "That's Not My Puppy" was HUGE when my kids were really little. I think I still know parts of it by heart.

Another good one that you might like: "Rainbow Rob"

    I still love that one.

My son has been a bookworm since 2 months, so we have sooooo many books! The Usborne "That's Not My…" series has always been his favorite! The puppy one is his all time favorite. We even send a copy to daycare for him to have there! We were buying so many that I ended up becoming an Usborne Books & More independent consultant! Haha!
