Classed Up Jell-O Shots

If you are looking for a fun way to liven up your weekend barbecue, these Jell-O shots are the way to go! These boozy beauties take just a little extra effort, and are a huge hit every time.

Here are the basics you will need for any jell-O shot recipe:

  • 3 oz box of Jell-O
  • 1 1/2 cups of water
  • 1/2 cup liquor of choice

To make the shots, just boil 1 cup of water and mix in the Jell-O until it is dissolved. Then add a 1/2 cup liquor and 1/2 cup cold water.

I used lemon vodka with lemon Jell-O for one batch, and coconut rum with island pineapple Jell-O for the second batch… but there are a million variations you could come up with. Just keep the ratio the same and you will be good to go.

Now for the fancy part. In the past, I have always used oranges or lemons to make these. This time I decided to switch it up by throwing some limes in the mix. Don’t do that. Unless you want to get really, really angry. The skin of a lime is actually pretty thin, and peeling out the pulp is a huge pain in the butt!! Oranges and lemons peel out way easier and turn out prettier anyway.

Here’s how to make Jell-O shot magic:

  • Cut the citrus in half
  • Scoop out the pulp
  • Place the halves on a muffin tin
  • Fill with the Jell-O shot mixture
  • Refrigerate them to set
  • Once set, slice them into thirds with a SHARP knife. (or if you are a fan of punishment and decided to go against my warning and use limes, then cut those in half.)

To get out the pulp, I recommend using a melon baller, or spoon with a serrated edge. I’m not going to lie here, it is kind of a pain to get all the pulp out. You will also realize how many tiny cuts and scratches you have on your hands.

So the next time you are looking for something creative and different to bring on a sunny day to hang out with friends, why not relive those college days and bring some classed up Jell-O shots?

Let me know how they turn out! (& I will now be calling my liquor stores 'bottle shops', since that just sounds awesome!)
