My daughter doesn't have any dolls

My daughter doesn’t have any dolls. This is not something I set out to do on purpose. I’m not trying to prove a point about women being equal or saying that all little girls don’t need to play with dolls, etc. (which they don’t, but I mean, HELLO.. have you seen how many bows and pink, frilly dresses this girl has? Doesn’t exactly scream feminist movement)

It just kind of happened by accident. I noticed it a few weeks ago when I was having a play date with a friend of mine who has two daughters. When Mila walked into their room… oh my. Her face LIT UP when she saw a shelf full of dolls. Cuddly dolls, baby dolls, disney dolls… any sweet faced doll you can imagine was staring back at her. And she was IN LOVE. She squealed and went running to them… grabbing one by one, hugging them, kissing them, laughing.

Yes, I made my friend text me a picture of the shelf. Obviously.

I was looking at how adorable and happy my sweet girl was, when it hit me.

I have never seen her act this way, because she doesn’t have any dolls!
How does my daughter not have a single doll?

I realized I don’t really get her any toys. With my son, I was ALWAYS buying him the latest & greatest brain boosting baby toy. So my house is full of kid toys now & on top of that, I feel like people are always buying her stuff. (thanks to Christmas & her recent birthday… But no dolls)

See? She has TONS of awesome toys…

She has even started carrying around ‘Alfie’, a hard, plastic robot computer toy… Which is so pathetic to watch. When she hugs him there is an audible ‘thud’, seriously.

Anyway, why would I buy her toys when I can buy her CLOTHES!? Lots & lots of clothes. Adorable, cute, girly, frilly clothes!! The whole thing made me realize, I’ve been so busy playing with my own real life baby doll, I forgot to buy her one of her own. I guess I’m still pretty new to this ‘girl’ thing, considering I’ve never even wandered in the pink section of the toy store. My world for the past 5 years has been Nerf guns, race cars, & Angry Birds.

Luckily for her, I have an ‘in’ with the Easter Bunny and there will be a very special gift waiting in my sweet girls basket this weekend. Then we will both have our dolls to snuggle with.

UPDATE: The Easter bunny brought my sweet girl an adorable doll that she LOVES! I am always looking for new ones to get her, so if there is a type of doll your child loves please leave me a comment!

The pic is fuzzy, but she was excited!!

I had 3 boys and one of my favorite pictures is my middle baby (Who is now 22!) holding my old Tumbalina doll in one hand a a toy screwdriver in the other! They all like to nurture!

Oh this is so sweet. I'm the same way. I have two boys and now a baby girl. She's a year old and THANKFULLY she has other family who have thought to gets her a couple of dolls. The other day she was sitting entranced at a disney princess book for like an hour that I pull out of an old box. Even as a fifteen month old she was drawn to those pretty princesses. Sooooo I'm on a mission to remember that I should probably get my baby girl some of her own girly things instead of just handing over her brothers beat up trains. One step at at time.

Awwwwโ€ฆwhat a sweetie! Our oldest daughter was never really into dolls that much, but the baby loves to cuddle and smooch some dolls. My mom got her one of those hugging Elmo dolls. And while Iโ€™d never spend $50 on a doll, both my girls LOVE it. Just goes to show that you never know what your kid will latch onto.

With 2 boys,I always figured my 2yo daughter would neverbe a girly girl! She not only LOVES the babies she has,but her favorite thing is to have her nails painted! Best thing about the dolls, however,is watching her 13yo brother play babies with her (melts my heart!) GREAT post Lauren ๐Ÿ™‚
