So my son has his first loose tooth. This is very exciting for him, since most of his friends have already lost a tooth or two.
For me, this is a stressful time. It leaves me wondering about the tooth fairy. What type of fairy will be coming to our home?
I have learned (the hard way) that Hudson remembers everything about Santa, the Easter Bunny, etc. For example, last year Hudson mentioned that he thought it was very strange that the Easter Bunny had ALWAYS left him a trail of plastic eggs leading from his room to his Easter basket, but last year he just got a basket, NO egg search. The Easter Bunny had zero recollection of doing this until she was reminded, maybe because the Easter Bunny had just moved into a new home and had a baby a month before. Just sayin.
I love the magic behind all of these things, and growing up my mom did such an awesome job keeping the mystery going. So I want to do the same. Since I will have to commit to this tooth fairy plan for all those tiny chompers in both my son and daughters mouth, I need to figure out a plan. And fast. That wobbly tooth is not going to last long.
I’ve checked Pinterest but I just don’t know what I want to do. Will our tooth fairy leave money or toys? Will she leave a trail of fairy dust, a mini letter, or just the tooth gift? You see??? This is hard!!
So what do you do for the tooth fairy? Please give me ideas before I have a breakdown…
After watching others go WAY over the top with bday parties, Christmas, and every other holiday, and often not having the extra cash to do the same, we decided with Oldest that we wouldn't. We wouldn't try to "keep up" or match anyone. What we'd do is find a way that worked for our family. The only times the kids get gifts in our house are Christmas, their bdays, and one small gift for Easter in one large basket for all of them.
That said, the Tooth Fairy is simple in our house. $1 cash and $1 Sacagawea "golden" dollar coin. The cash is theirs to spend, the coin is theirs to keep. Remember, whatever you do now, you're locked into for all your kids. Good luck!
You are so right! Keep it simple! I always get so caught up, and then I end up regretting it, since it is hard to remember everything and I get so stressed about something we should all be enjoying. Great advice, thank you!
We keep it simple too. Just a dollar. But I love the magic of it. My little one leaves his tooth in a baggie that's left open because the tooth fairy has small fingers. He also said she builds a castle with the teeth she collects. Where do they get this stuff? Too funny but I'm just going with it.
Haha, so funny! You should write that stuff down!
We keep it super simple and we throw any parent who gives more money than we do under the bus – we told the kids flat out 'the toothfairy only gives 50 cents, that's it – anybody who says their toothfairy does more than that is having their mom sneak in their rooms and do more.' then we tell them it is not ok to ruin the magic for the other kids ๐
Aweee– so cute! ๐ I was excited with my buck! ๐
I know… its so fun to watch it play out again as a parent, esp when you have great memories of it!
