After moving in, I saw signs around touting the ‘Annual New Year’s Day party in the park’ and it promised bounce houses and face painting. SOLD! Anytime I can keep my child amused for hours at a time, I’m there!
But I do have a confession, I hate being social. I don’t really enjoy making small talk with people I don’t know and I am horrible at remembering names. Luckily, what I lack.. my husband makes up for. He is Mr. Personality… and I know that past neighbors we have had wondered how such a cute, nice guy ended up being married to such an anti-social bitch.
Now, these people will be my neighbors for awhile… I have kids who need friends, so I slapped on a smile and headed to the party. And guess what? It was pretty awesome. My son had a blast and my husband and I met tons of people. I spoke to moms about how they liked the school district and was even invited to join them in some mommy activities.
The conversation went something like this:
New mommy friend 1: “You know we try to get together sometimes to catch up on how all the kids are doing, we would love to have you by.”
New mommy friend 2: “Yes… we try to meet around noon, and we would do it more often, but you know how it is… once you drop the kids off at school… the day flies by and you just have to pick them right up again.”
Me: “Oh.. that sounds great, but I work… so maybe I’ll just catch up with you on the weekends”
New mommy friend 1: “You work? Full time or just part time?”
Me: “Full time”
New mommy friend 2: “And you are having another baby?”
Me: “Sure looks that way…(uncomfortable laugh)”
*Former mommy friend 1: (as she states and former mommy friend 2) “Well lots of women do that now… I guess”
Ughhhhhh…..
At least we had fun, here are some pics of the party!
