4 Must-Read Books on Happiness

If you have been following me on Goodreads, you know I am killin’ it on my reading challenge this year! I always have some sort of self-improvement book in rotatation, along with a good fiction read. (If you are looking for a good book, check out Reese Witherspoon’s book club, Hello Sunshine. I have yet to read a bad book from her list!) I am always trying to improve myself and I think books are a great way to do just that. I love reading books that are mindfulness and happiness-related. These are all books that I have read that have made a major impact on me in some way. (I used Amazon affiliate links here, just an FYI)

My 4 Must-Read Books on Happiness

  1. The Book of Joy: I just read this one early this year, and it is one of my all-time favorite books. I think I will read it once a year. Here is the explainer from Amazon:

Nobel Peace Prize Laureates His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu have survived more than fifty years of exile and the soul-crushing violence of oppression. Despite their hardships—or, as they would say, because of them—they are two of the most joyful people on the planet.

In April 2015, Archbishop Tutu traveled to the Dalai Lama’s home in Dharamsala, India, to celebrate His Holiness’s eightieth birthday and to create what they hoped would be a gift for others. They looked back on their long lives to answer a single burning question: How do we find joy in the face of life’s inevitable suffering?

By the end of a week filled with laughter and punctuated with tears, these two global heroes had stared into the abyss and despair of our time and revealed how to live a life brimming with joy.

This book was beautifully written and talks about how to really find joy in every day. (even if things are bad or even if you are sad about what is going on in the world, etc) They explain their views on joy in a way that is so relatable and simple, I think everyone would enjoy it! 🙂

2. The Secret: I have mentioned this book before, but the premise behind it is one that I have followed throughout most of my life. I read this book when I was a teen (my mom gave it to me) but it wasn’t until I read it as an adult that I realized what a big impact it had on my life and the choices I have made. It’s an oldie, but a goodie.

3. You Are a Badass: Awesome, motivating and FUNNY! I think everyone should read this one. It is similar to “The Secret” but written in a way that more people can relate with.

4. The Universe Has Your Back: Another great one and the first Gabby Bernstein book I actually enjoyed. (I tried a few of her earlier books and they don’t even compare to how good this one is) This has a ton of actionable tips, mediations and writing exercises. I really want to read her new one, Judgement Detox, since being less judgemental is something I have been working on. (don’t judge me.. haha)

There you go, 4 of my must-read books on happiness and how to live a happier life! I am always looking for something good to read, so feel free to share your favorites in the comments. Also, if you are having trouble finding time to read, check out this post.

You are a badass is on my list of books to read! I’ve heard a lot of good things about it.

I just read Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis and loved it! She’s also a mom and her book has a lot of good tips on self-improvement. Highly recommend!

I love book lists! I haven’t read any of these yet, so they are going on my list. Thankfully, I invested in a Kindle. While I love a good old book, the Kindle allows me to cuddle with the kiddo and still read. p.s. LOVE HelloSunshine.

I am Kindle OBSESSED. I love how I can have a bunch of books in rotation on there so before bed I can just pick whatever I am in the mood for and jump from book to book 🙂
