Happy New Year! I had an awesome 2015 and I am looking forward to the new year! I had so much fun in December. The holidays were amazing, I got an entire week off of work and my sweet husband quietly celebrated his 40th birthday!
Every month I highlight one item that each family member is loving. These aren’t sponsored or anything (if it is I will always tell you!) they are just things we are obsessed with. I started this monthly series soon after I started my blog and readers are always telling me they love it. It is also a fun (& easy) post for me to write, since all I have to do is ask my husband & kids what their family favorite is!
Lauren:
My NEW Kindle
I am seriously obsessed with my brand new Kindle! I had my 2nd generation Kindle forever, and even though it didn’t hold a charge very well anymore, it still worked so I had a really hard time justifying getting a new one. I originally wanted a paper white, but after trying out a friend’s I realized I really didn’t like it and I thought it was kind of heavy, too. I figured I would just keep my old one until it officially broke, until my husband got me a new one for Christmas!! He actually gave it to me early since I was off for the week and he knew I would want to play with it. Let me tell you, I freaking love it. It is the 7th generation touch screen version. It is so small and light and perfect for my 2016 reading challenge! (I am already 45% into Big, Little Lies… but I am still on the wait list for the Tidying Up book) I think it is the best gift ever since it is something I didn’t really need but now that I have it I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. It makes me so very happy. Just like a good gift should. ๐
Donnie:
Barefoot Dreams Blanket
So since my husband did not want to have anything to do with a 40th birthday party, I decided to make the entire month a celebration. I left him a card along with a little gift every day leading up to his Christmas Eve birthday. His “big” gift was a blanket. I know what you are thinking. A blanket? Seriously? Yes, seriously. When I had Hudson, a dear friend of mine sent me a blue throw from Barefoot Dreams. It was the softest, most comfortable blanket I have ever felt. Donnie uses it almost every single night, and after almost 8 years… he needed a new one. They actually make the throw in different sizes, so I got him a twin size. (I knew he wouldn’t want one much larger, since we bring it from room to room) He loves it and told me it was the best gift! Totally worth the money!
My husband refused to pose with his blanket, so the bear was a fantastic stand-in! |
Hudson:
Ninja Gear
My sweet boy tested for his orange/white belt this month and passed, which was very exciting! It is so nice to see him in an activity he really LOVES after a few failed soccer and flag football leagues. Santa brought him tons of karate gear and Hudson is loving it! He got kick pads, punch pads, a break board, rubber ninja stars and nunchucks. he has been having a blast playing with everything. My husband even set up a board using egg cartons for the kids to throw the ninja stars at. It is a huge hit… all the neighborhood kids have been coming over to play ‘ninjas.’
He takes his ninja moves seriously. ๐ |
Mila:
Princess Bike & Frozen Helmet
A few months ago I took the kids to Walmart and Mila fell in love with a princess bike that had a a little doll seat in the back, shiny streamers and a bell. (what’s not to love) She immediately starting riding it through the store, which surprised me since she is not even 3 yet. (big brother syndrome)
Ever since that day she has been asking Santa for one, and as luck would have it, he brought her one. We took her to the store and let her pick out a new helmet (she chose Frozen, shocker) and she has been riding that bike ever since. She loves it! I think she particularly likes that she has a bike like all the other kids on our street, since she was the only trike rider.
Happy girl! |
That’s our list for the month! What is your family currently loving? Any holiday toys that were big hits? I would love to hear about it in the comments section!

My little lady doesn't take karate but she wanted nunchucks from Santa too. She already KO'd herself in the face resulting in a bruise so maybe she needs some pointers from Hudson. ๐
Happy belated birthday Donnie!

He seems to only knock out his friends and sister.. strategic accidents we like to call them. ๐

I think I need a kindle. I thought it would be a "fad"– I think I need one.
Lauren says
haha I think this fad is sticking around. It makes reading so much easier since you can keep hundreds of books on there! I really love mine!

That is sweet that you gave your husband a little gift each day leading up to his birthday! The bear did an excellent pose with the blanket. : 0 )

So cute! I love how in character your son is with the ninja gear — will have to get my son a pair when he's a little older :)!
Lauren says
They are actually pretty lightweight and soft too.. I think the "metal" chains are really plastic.
Chanity Dawn says
Ooooh!! Love your Kindle! I have been using iBooks on my phone, but I would love to have a kindle just for reading. I get distracted and end up on Facebook when I use my phone ๐
Lauren says
You can also get the kindle app for your phone and read that way too.. I like the set up of the app more than I like the iBooks set up. ๐
Lauren says
i should also say you DONT need a kindle to get the app. ๐

I always love these lists of yours! Happy belated to your hubby! It's so sweet of you to have given him all sorts of surprises leading up to his birthday. Also, I totally get the blanket (and he looks so good in it too, haha.) You're tempting me to want a kindle…. Sigh. So many fun adult toys. So little time…
